Soup Cans & a String

from Old Friend - EP by Allison Young

lyrics

Do you remember being a kid
we'd do such crazy things
we'd play pretend
fly from the swings
jump on our beds as if they were trampolines

When our mama's would give us greens
We thought it would be a crime
those poor little vegetables lying on our plates
they don't deserve to die

Soup cans and a string were
the only thing we needed
to have fun and feel the sun on a rainy day
now that we're older
everything is so much colder
and I wish we could go back and be a kid

I think it's funny now that I know
how hard it is to make a best friend
we used to say 'hello' and then two seconds later
we swore we'd be together till our journeys end

I miss the days when I could dress up like a princess
and walk right into town
those little plastic shoes and a wand that I would lose
Jewels missing from my crown
rips in my gown
and my daddy would say to me
"You're the prettiest princess I've ever seen"

Soup cans and a string were
the only thing we needed
to have fun and feel the sun on a rainy day
now that we're older
everything is so much colder
and I wish we could go back and be a kid
